WIN A COPY OF PRESENTING PRINCESS SHAW ON DVD

Reelblack, Philly’s #1 promoter of Black Film, is giving one lucky reader a copy of PRESENTING PRINCESS SHAW (2016) on DVD, which was released today by Magnolia Home Entertainment on DVD and Digital HD.

Enter to win by sending an email with your FULL NAME AND MAILING ADDRESS IN THE MESSAGE AND THE PHRASE “PRINCESS SHAW” IN THE SUBJECT LINE to reelblackinc@aol.com

The true story of the incredible Princess Shaw and the enigmatic composer Kutiman, who discovers her from the other side of the world.
By day, Samantha Montgomery cares for the elderly in one of New Orleans’s toughest neighborhoods. By night, she writes and sings her own songs as Princess Shaw on her confessional YouTube channel. Raw and vulnerable, her voice is a diamond in the rough.
Across the globe, Ophir Kutiel creates video mash ups of amateur YouTube performers. Known as Kutiman, he is a composer, a musician, and a pioneering video artist embraced by the world of fine art. Kutiman “transforms sampling into a multimedia art,” whether at his home on a kibbutz in Israel or at a live performance at the Guggenheim in New York.
Two strangers, almost 7,000 miles apart, begin to build a song. The film unfolds as Kutiman pairs Princess Shaw’s emotional performances in a beautiful expression of generosity and compassion, revealing the bona fide star underneath and her fight to never give up on her dreams.

Love Jones – the Musical is not just a stage play… it is the MUST SEE musical event of 2016! No question about it. Fusing an A-List musical lineup with a movie title that is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon, Love Jones – the Musical is a brilliant idea coming along at exactly the right time!

Originally released as a movie in 1997, Love Jones became a cult classic that captured the imagination of an entire generation! Ask any African American woman over that age of 30 about Love Jones and you will almost certainly encounter a nostalgic, almost reverent, retelling of the classic, yet gritty, love story of Darius and Nine. The brand recognition of this title, amongst the core demographic, is astonishingly universal!

We’ve taken this title and brought it to life with some of the biggest names in music today. Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michele, Marsha Ambrosius, MC Lyte, Dave Hollister and Raheem DeVaughn have been carefully selected as they each bring a sizable audience and a recognizable catalog of hits that will make Love Jones – the Musical an event with unquestioned appeal. Produced with the size and scale of a concert, we’ve given this show all of the elements to make it a magical, transformative experience for the audience. Think of it like a concert, only with a theme. And that theme is the telling of a classic story that captured the hearts and minds of an entire generation of women.

JUST ADDED: WORLD PREMIERE OF KINDRED THE FAMILY SOUL’S LEGACY OF LOVE  SHORT FILM.  A 30 minute look into the lives of Philly’s First Family of Soul from director Konnee Rok.

Richard (Timothy Hutton) and Mildred (Lela Rochon), who grew up together in Central Point, Virginia, decide to get married in 1960. The only trouble is he is white and she is black.

After being told that interracial marriages are outlawed in the state, they get hitched in Washington, D.C., and return home. The Lovings are arrested on their wedding night and put in prison. A judge explains to them that God separated the races and did not intend for them to mix. They are exiled from Virginia for 25 years.

The Lovings settle down in a black Washington slum where Mildred learns about the civil rights movement while taking care of her two small children. A letter to Attorney General Robert Kennedy brings a lawyer connected to the ACLU to their aid. After three years of waiting, the Supreme Court strikes down 18 state laws forbidding interracial marriage. This drama, based on a true story, presents an important slice of civil rights history.
