BRUCE!!! - ABFF Winner Kicks of Reelblack Season 16 THIS FRIDAY

On Friday October 12 at 7:30pm Reelblack kicks of its 16th Season with the Philadelphia Premiere of BRUCE!!! (2017), written, directed and starring Eden Marryshow, who will be onhand for a post-film Q&A. BRUCE’!! hs won top awards at The American Black Film Festival and Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival. It’s a coming of age story about a man that’s probably too old to come of age!

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Best Director at the American Black Film Festival, this DIY comedy from Brooklyn-bred writer-director-star Eden Marryshow centers on Bruce—a human leech with no job, no ambition, and a less-than-stellar track record with women. That all changes when he meets Keira (Chester), falls hopelessly in love, and is finally forced to grow up…in his 30s. Drawing inspiration from John Hughes’ 80s classics, Marryshow fashions a brash, sharply written portrait of a loser turning his life around.

JUST ADDED: Short Film/ Music Video, “Focus on Da Good” by Hakim Woods.

WILMINGTON ON FIRE 10/5 at AAMP - Filmmaker In Person

On Friday, October 5, the African American Museum in Philadelphia partners with Reelblack to host a special screening of filmmaker Christopher Everett’s poignant documentary Wilmington on Fire. Rosewood has long been infamous, but Wilmington came first and was even more devastating in its effects. In 1898, Wilmington was North Carolina’s largest city, with a majority black population, a thriving black middle class, and a biracial Republican-Populist fusion government. On November 10, an armed mob of Democrat -backed white supremacists opened fire on African American neighborhoods, slaughtering hundreds and driving thousands out of the city for good.
