On Friday December 8 at 8pm, Reelblack and PEC will present a special 45th Anniversary presentation of MELINDA, followed by a special presentation of audio interviews with surviving members of the production that were recorded for an upcoming Reelblack Podcast.

The first feature film produced by a major studio entirely written, produced and directed by African-Americans, MELINDA has been largely unseen until its 2016 re-issue on the Warner Archive label and showings on Bounce TV. Reelblack has gone the extra mile, not only to show the film, but to screen a rare TV interview with the film’s creator, the late HUGH ROBERTSON, and to share with those in attendance, interview snippets with JUDYANN ELDER (widow of the movie’s screenwriter, Lonne Elder II) and RENNY ROKER, surviving members of the cast.

IMDB SYNOPSIS
A slick, smooth-talking, womanizing young black DJ falls hard for an enigmatic woman he’s just met. Things take a turn for the worse, though, when she is found dead in his apartment. It turns out that she was killed by the local mob, which is trying to frame him for the crime. With the police after him, he calls on some of his old acquaintances to help clear his name and avenge the woman’s death.
